DHARAMSHALA: After the objections raised by the family members,
health minister Vipin Parmar
had ordered probe in the death of a girl at Dr.
Rajendera Prasad Medical College at Tanda
. The girl was admitted after bitten by a snake at home.
College administration
said that there were four other cases like this but out of total five only four had survived. But parents have raised questions on the treatment, they blamed negligence of doctors behind the death.
Dr. Bhanu Awasthi, principal of the medical college told TOI that issue was being highlighted without acknowledging the fact that there were four other cases of snake bite on the same day but only this girl could not survive.
“I have read the treatment given to the deceased patient, it was alright. I don’t deny any fact of carelessness that might have happened but the medicines given to the girl were same which were given to others. Doctors might not have checked her for some time as she perhaps had not shown any serious symptoms at that time” he said.
But the parents of the deceased girl Priyanka who was a student of final year B.Sc have alleged that no senior doctor was available at the time they reached emergency unit of the hospital. “When health of Priyanka started deteriorating number of doctors came but girl could not be saved,” said Mast Ram, father.
The administration has refused to divulge further details in this case till the probe was underway. It was said that girl was brought to the hospital on July 16 evening but doctors failed to save her.
Department had first formed a committee under the headship of Dr. Dheeraj Kapoor but parents raised objections over the same. Later, health minister ordered to form another committee constituting experts of IGMC Shimla. Committee has made the report but the action was awaited in this case.
