NEW DELHI: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday won Seraj assembly constituency by a huge margin of around 37,000 votes for the record sixth time.

Thakur got 52,076 votes against his nearest rival Chet Ram of Congress party who received 15,069 votes.

Thakur has won five elections earlier in 1998, 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2017 from Seraj, which was earlier known as the Chachiot constituency. The constituency has been dominated by the BJP for the last 25 years.



In the 2017 assembly polls, Thakur had defeated Ram by a margin of over 11,000 votes.

Counting of votes for the 68-member assembly began at 8am. As per the latest trends, Congress was just ahead of the majority mark by maintaining a lead on 38 seats.
