Remotest village of Himachal Pradesh cut off after rains

DHARAMSHALA: Bara

Bhangal

situated at the height of about 8000 ft was disconnected from rest of the region after rains due to landslides. It is the remotest village of state. A piece of mountain has stuck the trekking route for two - three kilometers. People there were awaiting the food and medicine supply from last more than 20 days.

Bhangal village falls in Baijnath area of

Kangra district

. Slippery natural trails, treacherous jeep able roads, landslides on the way and five days arduous trekking of about 80 kms was the only way to reach here.

“Road is blocked, the only approach at present is through

Kullu

area but that was very much risky. Situation in the village was very bad, government must take immediate action,” said a villager who doesn’t want to be quoted.

Legislature of the area,

Mulkh Raj Premi

, with a local leader of the village, Chunni Lal Bhangalia, has met chief minister Jairam Thakur a day before to take up this issue but results were still awaited.

“We have told the chief minister that food stock has ended. There was a dire need of the essential supply there. Jairam Thakur has assured us that he will take action soon,” Chunni Lal told TOI on Monday.

District Commissioner, Sandeep Kumar said that the place of landslide was Pnehartu and palchak area. “It is almost impossible to cross this stretch as slide is continuous shooting stones and sinking land is a danger zone. We also advise to the resident of this village to not cross from here,” he said.

The only easiest way to connect this village was helicopter owned by the state government. But people were waiting for this service. Tender were floated to resume the food and other essential supply to this area but sources told that no one has applied for that.

Approach road to this village was through trek of 80 KMs of five days from Bir area which is not possible due to heavy rains as one has to cross Thamsar pass. Other is to travel more than 300 KMs by road from Bir to

Chamba district

and then start a 45 KMs trek from Nya gran of Chamba which is three days two nights trek.

Village also has a school which has 18 students and the population of this village is around 400 persons. Most of the people here were from shepherd community of

Himachal Pradesh

.
