Polish paraglider crash-lands in Kangra

Kullu: A Polish paraglider, who is not participating in the ongoing world cup, was stranded in the Dhauladhar mountains in Kangra after crash-landing on Sunday. The paraglider, Andrew Babinski, had crash-landed on Aadi Himani Chamnunda peak and suffered back injuries.While a search and rescue team on Monday reached the spot where Babinski was stuck, he couldn’t be airlifted. “Two helicopter sorties were flown to airlift the injured paraglider on Monday. But, due to difficult topography and challenging terrain where Babinski was stuck, he couldn’t be airlifted,” said Baijnath SDM Devi Chand Thakur.“The injured paraglider has been provided with food and first-aid. His condition is stable. Fresh efforts to airlift the paraglider will be made on Tuesday morning,” added Thakur.According to Billing Paragliding Association (BPA) officials, Babinski was a ‘free flyer’ and not taking part in the ongoing Paragliding World Cup. A free-flyer is a paraglider who is allowed to use the take-off site after paying a nominal fee to local authorities. A number of paragliding accidents have occurred during and before the ongoing world cup.
