Policy on cultivation of cannabis soon: HP min

Shimla: After taking public opinion, the Himachal Pradesh government will soon bring an effective policy on the legal and scientific cultivation of cannabis in the larger interest of the society and the state, horticulture minister Jagat Singh Negi said. Negi, who heads the committee set up to study legal and scientific cultivation of cannabis in Himachal, had held a programme with various stakeholders and public representatives in Dharamshala on Monday. He said the climate of Himachal Pradesh was conducive for the production of cannabis. Cannabis grown here can be used for both medicinal and industrial purposes, he added. “The committee is organising such programmes across the state to clear the doubts of public and take their suggestions through an open discussion on this subject before policy formulation,” he further said. Terming it first such initiative, Negi said that chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has been working on new ideas. tnn
