Martyred in Poonch, army jawan cremated at native village

Sapan Mehra (34) was posted at Sawjian sector of Poonch with 40 RR.


He is survived by two children and wife. His father is suffering from serious illness so he was not informed about the incident, while his mother participated in the cremation ceremony.

It is being said that he and one other soldier were on patrolling when avalanche hit the area. They both fell into a 300 meter deep gorge. The other jawan Harpreet Singh who was injured in this incident is from Punjab.

Martyr’s father Bir Singh and brother Bharat Bhushan of the martyr are also retired army personnel.

On behalf of state government, DSP Giyan Chand Thakur and SDM Balwan Chand were present. However, no major announcement from the state for martyr’s family had been made till the filling of this report.
