SHIMLA: Congress MLA Jagat

Singh Negi

on Friday raised the issue of 780MW Jangi-Thopan-Powari hydro project of Kinnaur district in the assembly, asking the government whether it will cancel the MoU of the project in the wake of opposition from several panchayats. Power minister

Sukh Ram Chaudhary

informed the House that the MoU was signed on September 25, 2019, with SJVNL, which is preparing a detailed project report.

The government has no intention of cancelling the MoU, he said, adding that all power projects coming up in the state are facing opposition, including from NGOs that had nothing to do with them. In some places, project developers are being blackmailed, he said.

Negi said people had tried to meet chief minister Jai Ram Thakur to apprise him about their grievances, but the latter did not meet them. He asked why the chief minister was not talking to people to sort out their apprehensions about the project. Three panchayats in the project area had boycotted the polls during byelection for

Mandi

parliamentary seat.
