Flights from dawn to dusk at Kangra by March ’25: CM

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Wednesday that by March next year, flights will operate at Kangra airport from sunrise to sunset for which approval has already been granted.The chief minister added that the state govt would provide additional security personnel to the Airports Authority of India(AAI). While chairing a review meeting at the mini-secretariat in Dharamshala on Wednesday to assess the progress of various departmental schemes and projects, the chief minister asserted that he would personally monitor the progress of key projects aimed at transforming Kangra into the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh. These projects include the development of a zoo in Bankhandi, water sports facilities at Pong Lake, the expansion of Kangra airport, and the establishment of an advanced milk plant in Dhangwar. Sukhu added that the plan to expand Kangra airport is crucial to realising the goal of making Kangra the tourism capital of the state. Currently, the runway length of Kangra airport is 1,376 meters. Under the expansion plan, the runway will be extended to 3,010 meters to accommodate larger aircraft. To implement this, land is being acquired from 14 revenue villages across eight panchayats, he added.

Additional 8 acres land to be acquired for Bihta airport

The Patna district administration is acquiring eight more acres of land to facilitate commercial flight operations at Bihta airport. With 108 acres already secured, this acquisition will enable the construction of the terminal building and a six-lane approach road. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to expand the Patna airport runway, allowing for larger aircraft.

Bhogapuram airport to be operational by March 26

The Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) greenfield international airport in Visakhapatnam is on track to open ahead of schedule in March 2026. Construction is progressing quickly, with over 45% already completed. The state government, along with Union minister K. Rammohan Naidu, are closely monitoring the project.

The Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has issued a directive mandating prior approval from the Information and Public Relations Director (DIPR) for the release of any photographs featuring the Chief Minister.
