HP seeks ₹1,613cr for rain damage

Shimla: Presenting the memorandum of damages resulting from natural calamities with losses estimated at over Rs 1,613 crore, the Himachal Pradesh govt has sought a liberal assistance from the interministerial central team, which was on a three-day visit to the state.Additional chief secretary Onkar Chand Sharma on Saturday debriefed the central team tasked with evaluating the impact of cloudbursts and flash floods on infrastructure, human lives and agricultural assets. Sharma said the state had reported 46 landslides, 12 cloudbursts and 39 flash floods, which had cost 174 lives with an additional 144 indirect fatalities linked to rainfall-related hazards. At least 206 individuals were injured and 31 remain missing, while livestock casualties touched 222. Also, 1,405 houses and animal shelters suffered partial or complete damage. The state allocated about Rs 621 crore for immediate repair of roads and bridges, he said.

Additionally, 180 houses and shops were damaged, and 20 cattle were killed. The district administration is assessing the damage, and immediate measures are being undertaken.
