SHIMLA: One person died on the spot after falling from a paraglider during a tandem flight at Bir Billing valley of
Kangra district
on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as
Sandeep Chaudhary (30) of A Mumta village of Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra. After receiving information about the incident, the police registered a case and started investigation by taking possession of the dead body.
According to the information, Sandeep had come to Bir Billing along with his friends and he decided to ride the paraglider. It is said that the belt and harness came loose minutes after takeoff and Sandeep fell from about 150 feet on the roof of a house near Bir and died on the spot.
The police are probing the incident and the cause of the accident will be known only after the investigation. In the preliminary investigation, it is coming to the fore that Sandeep's harness opened during the flight. The pilot is registered with the tourism department and he took off only after getting the bond filled by Sandeep.
Last month on October 16, a helper of a paragliding pilot died after getting himself entangled in the rope during flight at Indrunag area of Dharamshala in Kangra district. The pilot was taking off from the paragliding site Indrunag and during the process, his colleague, who was helping him take off got hanged with the paraglider after entangling himself with the ropes. After hanging in the air he fell down from the parachute at some distance and died. Police have registered a case and started the further investigation after taking possession of the dead body.
Earlier in January this year, a paraglider pilot had gone missing after taking off from Billing area of Baijanth sub division in Kangra district. His body was later recovered after five months by May end from the
