NEW DELHI: After the assembly election debacle, the BJP on Tuesday got a sigh of relief when it's candidates gained massive leads in their respective Lok Sabha constituencies during the initial rounds of vote counting.
As per the initial trends, the saffron party was leading in all four seats.
BJP candidate and Union minister Anurag Thakur won from Hamirpur constituency by a margin of 1,82,357 votes against his nearest rival Satpal Raizada of the Congress. Thakur got 6,07,068 votes in total.
In Kangra, BJP's Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj got an impressive lead of 2,47,103 votes against Congress candidate and former union minister Anand Sharma.
Likewise, in Mandi constituency, BJP candidate and actor Kangana Ranaut won by a margin of 74,755 votes against her nearest rival Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress. Kangana got 5,37,022 in total.
In Shimla, BJP candidate Suresh Kashyap was leading by 89,714 votes against Vinod Sultanpuri of the Congress.
Counting of votes began at 8am amid tight security for the hill state's four Lok Sabha seats and six assembly constituencies where bypolls were held.
The BJP won all four Lok Sabha seats -- Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Shimla -- in the 2014 and the 2019 elections. However, it lost the Mandi seat to the Congress in the 2021 bypoll.
