Initiative to raise HIV awareness

Kullu: Himachal chief minister (CM) Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the 37th World AIDS Day programme, held under the theme ‘Take the Right Path’, in Shimla on Sunday. During the event, Sukhu launched the ‘Car Bin’ initiative to raise awareness about HIV and cleanliness. In the first phase, 4,000 taxis would be equipped with these bins free of charge, with plans to cover all 30,000 taxis across the state in a phased manner. The CM said the state had taken significant steps in the past two years to address HIV and improve overall healthcare. He said targeted individuals were being provided with equal access to awareness, testing and medication.

Gujarat launches comprehensive HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns

The Gujarat State AIDS Control Society, in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Organisation and the Gujarat government, is launching a state-wide awareness campaign on World AIDS Day.

Plan to make Ganjam panchayat HIV-free

Ganjam administration aims to make Badapalli panchayat in Khallikote block HIV-free by February next year. Despite migration for jobs, no HIV cases have been reported in the panchayat, which consists of 33 small villages, over the past five years, according to Hemant Kumar Das, project coordinator of Ganjam district AIDS control unit.

AIDS cases among children rise in state amid declining HIV testing rates

Jharkhand is experiencing a worrying increase in AIDS cases among children in 2024, with eight new cases reported, while HIV testing has dropped by nearly 50%. This decrease in testing raises concerns about undiagnosed cases. Despite efforts by the AIDS control department to raise awareness, healthcare challenges and social stigma continue to plague those living with HIV/AIDS.
