MANALI: Mast Ram (75), ex-MLA from Karsog in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at a private hotel in Sundernagar on Monday.
According to primary investigation by police, Mast Ram had booked a room in a hotel at Sundernagar in Mandi district on Sunday evening. He was staying alone in the hotel. He was supposed to check out before the noon on Monday.
When he did not come down to the reception for check-out process, the hotel management got suspicious and hotel manager knocked the door to check if everything was alright.
Police said when manager did not get response from inside; the manager brought duplicate keys and opened the door to find him hanging from ceiling. Manager then informed the police about the incident.
Mandi additional superintendent of police Ashish Sharma said, "Prima facie statements of the hotel staff suggest that the ex-MLA committed suicide by hanging after booking a room in the hotel. A suicide note also has been found in the room. The forensic team has lifted the evidence. The investigation is underway."
According to sources, Mast Ram in his suicide note has taken responsibility for the suicide and urged not to bother his family. He has also mentioned about the money which he asked to hand over to his wife.
Mast Ram has been two times MLA from Karsog constituency. He won the elections in 1993 and 2002 on a Congress ticket.
