Himachal imposes 4-mth ban on trout fishing till Feb 28
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh fisheries department has imposed a ban on fishing of trout in major rivers and their tributaries in the state for 4 months.
Vivek Chandel, director, fisheries department, said that in a step to promote breeding of trout fish in the cold-water regions of the state and to conserve this natural resource, the department has imposed a complete ban on trout fishing from Nov 1 to Feb 28, 2025. These rivers include the Pabbar in Shimla district; Beas, Sarvari, Parvati, Gadsa, and Sainj in Kullu district; Uhal in Mandi and Kangra districts, and Bhandal Nala in Chamba district.
Chandel added that the ban is necessary to conserve trout fish during their natural breeding season and allow for natural seed collection in reservoirs.
Also, in order to ensure the safety of trout in water, the fisheries department has made special arrangements and a dedicated monitoring force has been deployed to patrol these water areas.
The Himachal Pradesh department has even cancelled the leaves of departmental employees working in these cold regions. State fisheries department’s 8 trout farms had produced over 1.5 million trout seeds last year, said Chandel.
