Sukhu announces 4% DA for 3.5L HP employees and pensioners

Shimla: On Dussehra eve, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday announced release of 4% pending dearness allowance (DA) for 1.80 lakh govt employees and 1.70 lakh pensioners with effect from Jan 1, 2023.
The release of pending DA will put an extra burden of Rs 600 crore per year on the state exchequer.
In view of the Diwali festival, the CM also made an announcement that the employees and pensioners would receive their salary and pension on Oct 28 instead of Nov 1 and 9, respectively.
Addressing the mediapersons, Sukhu also announced to clear all the pending medical bills of the employees and retirees for which a provision of Rs 10 crore has already been made. The CM issued the directions to the departments concerned to clear all the pending medical bills this month, stating that adequate budget would be provided to the departments for this purpose as per their demand.
He also announced to pay the entire amount of pending arrears to all the pensioners above 75 years of age. A total of Rs 202 crore will be spent in this financial year over the salary and pension arrears, Sukhu added.
The chief minister also made an announcement regarding the release of an additional installment of arrear amounting Rs 20,000 for Class IV govt employees in the current fiscal year.
Sukhu reiterated that the state would be self-reliant by 2027 and there was no such financial crunch as being propagated in the media by the national and the state BJP leaders.
Taking a jibe at the leader of opposition, Jairam Thakur, for “spreading lies” about the financial status of the state and even “misleading” the Prime Minister and the BJP national president, Sukhu said the BJP had left no stone unturned in “spreading misinformation” about the state’s fiscal health.
He said the release of due amount, including the DA and arrears, was the testimony to the fact that the state govt was committed to address the grievances of its employees and there was no such financial crunch as of now.
Deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri, health minister Dhani Ram Shandil, and Shimla MLA Harish Janartha were also present.
