₹100cr projects for Rohru, college to be renamed after Virbhadra: Sukhu

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday dedicated projects worth Rs 100.95 crore to the people of Rohru assembly segment in Shimla district.Sukhu also announced to rename Seema College in Rohru after the former chief minister Late Virbhadra Singh.The projects the CM dedicated includes Rs 29.22 crore-worth ultra-modern grading, cold atmosphere (CA) store having the capacity to store 2,031 metric tonne from the existing 700 MT, which will benefit the horticulturalists of the region immensely. The chief minister also inaugurated the Govt Ayurvedic Hospital constructed with an outlay of Rs 2.79 crore, the newly completed Chunjar-Katlah, Shalan, Melthi-Kupri water supply scheme completed at a cost of Rs. 3.92 crore, and the drinking water scheme initiated for the Rohru rural area at Rs 5.03 crore.He also performed the foundation stone laying ceremony of various road projects worth Rs 51.74 crore for the area. These include strengthening of Podhar-Mandiyori-Karasa road, Seema Ratnari road, Samoli-Parsa road, Rohru-Arhal-Bashla road and Mehandli Ganasidhar road. He also laid the foundation stone of the hostel to be constructed in Seema College, Rohru at a cost of Rs 8.25 crore.While speaking as the chief guest during the annual function of Govt College Seema, Rohru, Sukhu announced to rename Seema College after the former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh. He also announced to start BEd course at the college from the next academic session and assured to provide liberal financial assistance for the construction of the hostel. He added that construction would soon begin for a multipurpose building in the college.Sukhu said the level of education continuously declined during the tenure of the previous BJP govt, as they opened 900 educational and health institutions without budgetary provision, just for electoral gains.The state govt is taking tough decisions in the public interest, the positive results of which will be visible in near future soon, he said, adding that new vocational courses would be started to ensure good education and better employment opportunities to the students.

Two college students killed in road accident

A road accident near Aseharu on Dahi-Mohanlal Ganj road in Unnao district claimed the lives of two college students, Adarsh (16) and Shubhra Pandey (20). The motorcycle they were riding collided with a loader, leading to their injuries. Adarsh was pronounced dead at the CHC, while Shubhra succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Police are investigating the driver responsible.

Students stage protest against renaming Koti womens college

Hundreds of students from the University College for Women in Koti protested against frequent name changes, citing identity issues and practical difficulties. The institution, initially renamed Telangana Mahila Vishwavidyalayam in 2022, was recently renamed Veeranari Chakali Ailamma Women's University. Students struggle with job applications and interviews due to these changes, and UGC recognition remains pending.
