Convene MC meet ‘expeditiously’: HC to DC

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh high court has directed the deputy commissioner, Hamirpur, to convene a meeting of the municipal council, Hamirpur, “expeditiously” in terms of the requisition submitted by the majority municipal councillors on July 25 expressing their intention to bring no confidence motion against the elected president of the council Manoj Kumar Minhas.
Justice Sandeep Sharma, while disposing of the petition moved by municipal councillor Vinay Kumar and others, quashed the DC’s July 27 order which stated that there was no requirement or provision to fix the special meeting of the House to discuss no confidence motion against the president once such motion was withdrawn.
Eight elected members of the municipal council had addressed a communication to the Hamirpur DC stating that they were not satisfied with the functioning of the president and they intend to bring a no confidence motion against him. A majority of the councillors in the House are from the BJP and president Minhas is with the Congress now. “Though, in case at hand earlier requisition dated March 1, 2024 could not be taken to its logical end despite there being initiation of steps by the DC in terms of Section 25 of the Act and Rule 92, but yet afore authority was under obligation to convene a meeting of the House in terms of subsequent motion dated July 25 given by the majority of elected members,” mentioned the court order released on Wednesday. tnn
