Work on country’s biggest ropeway in Shimla starts next yr, says dyCM
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri Thursday said the construction of the 13.79km long Shimla Ropeway – country’s longest and world’s second longest ropeway project – will begin in March next year.
The Rs 1,734 crore project aims to solve the problem of traffic congestion in the capital city, especially during peak tourist season. With 660 trolleys and 13 stations, the Shimla Ropeway will facilitate the transport of about 6,000 passengers per hour, Agnihotri said.
Its DPR has already been prepared by a foreign consultant. Earlier this month, the New Development Bank (NDB) gave the state ropeways corporation the go-ahead to float advance tenders for the project, he added.
Agnihotri also said both the state govt and the Centre are working in tandem to complete two key railway lines in the state — Chandigarh-Baddi and Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri.
