Cong demands CBI probe over letter controversy
Dharamshala: Taking out a protest against the state government over the anonymous letter that had levelled corruption allegations in the state’s health department, Congress demanded a CBI inquiry into the case on Wednesday.
Targeting the state government over the controversy that had triggered infighting in the BJP also, former Congress minister Sudhir Sharma along with party workers shouted slogans against the BJP government.
Congress has submitted a memorandum demanding a CBI probe into this case.
An anonymous letter, viral on the social media, had alleged corruption in the supply of medicines in the health department.
While the police had already registered an FIR in this case at Palampur and arrested one person, they had also questioned former BJP minister Ravinder Ravi for allegedly circulating the letter on the social media. The state BJP president and the chief minister had defended the police action, dismissing the charges as an attempt to malign the image of the government.
“We don’t know what kind of medicines was supplied in the hospitals under this government. Their (BJP government) own party leader is facing action in this letter controversy. But the government has not ordered any inquiry into the allegations of corruption made in this letter,” said Sudhir Sharma.
Former BJP minister Ravinder Ravi has been questioned twice by the police in this case and his mobile phone too has also been confiscated. Ravi, a loyalist of former CM P K Dhumal, had said he would cooperate with police during the investigation.
