Manali: Alleging that the Congress tickets were on sale in Himachal Pradesh, chief minister Jai Ram Thakur claimed during Surender Shourie’s nomination procession at Banjar on Thursday that even loyal Congressmen were complaining that they couldn’t afford to contest.
The CM claimed to have heard that from Aditya Vikram Singh and many others who had left the Congress for BJP. Thakur claimed that a price was also being recovered from those joining the Congress in Delhi, and while there was dissidence in the BJP as well over ticket distribution, “it will be over in three-four days”. He claimed that since Aditya Vikram had joined the BJP, the Banjar contest be one-sided.
Thakur said: “The Congress has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh but gave it nothing, while the truth is that he gave us projects worth more than Rs 10 crore in the last five years. The Congress doesn’t see development until it some money gets into its pockets.” He appealed to the voters of Banjar to “change the custom of not repeating the government, since the BJP had worked cleanly. He said: “The Congress takes me for a novice from Seraj but I am no more that old Seraji.”
Aditya Vikram Singh, who quit as state Congress committee secretary and joined the BJP on Wednesday, said: “I went to Delhi for the Congress ticket but failed to get it despite being a loyal worker, because the tickets were on sale. If the Congress claims to be a party of the youth, why is it fielding ineligible seniors who can buy their ticket?”
Taking a jibe at the Congress, Thakur said: “The BJP has star campaigners such as Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi (Aditynath), and Smriti Irani, while the Congress has no big face.” Sunder Singh Thakur, Congress nominee from Kullu, said the party was sending its “top guns”.
