Central team visits flood-hit areas in Mandi

Kullu: A team from the Centre visited flood-ravaged Mandi district on Thursday. The losses due to recent cloudbursts and floods in the district have been estimated to be Rs 213.50 crore.The eight-member interministerial team was led by Mihir Kumar, joint secretary of MHA. It visited Terang village and the surrounding areas in Chauhar Valley of Mandi district where a flash flood wreaked havoc on August 1. The team also visited the flood-hit villages of Matt and Vamanu.Later in the day, the team members held a meeting with district officials, including deputy commissioner Apoorv Devgan. Mihir Kumar said the suggestions and feedback gathered from the affected areas would be included in his report on the losses suffered by the people of Mandi district during this year’s monsoon.Devgan said 10 people lost their lives in the Rajban area of Chauhar Valley in a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst on August 1, with the total cost estimated at Rs 11.92 crore. Nine bodies were later recovered from the area, and one person is still missing, he added.

DKS to BBMP: Shift 27 families staying back in flood-hit Kendriya Vihar

Twenty-seven families refuse to evacuate the flood-hit Kendriya Vihar Apartments in Bengaluru, despite an order from the BBMP due to heavy rain forecasts. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar prioritized their safety and instructed officials to relocate them. Shivakumar also inspected other affected areas and emphasized the need for cleaning lakes and removing encroachments to prevent future flooding.

Preparations start at Naubasta Galla Mandi for byelection

District officials, working on preparations for the upcoming Sishamau bypolls on Nov 13, inspected Naubasta Galla Mandi. The Public Works Department was tasked with creating a detailed blueprint for arrangements, while other officials were directed to ensure cleanliness, road repairs, functional lighting, and potable water availability. Senior police and administrative officers were present during the inspection.

Shivamogga KSCA stadium flooded

Heavy rain in Shivamogga has flooded the KSCA stadium, built on the historic Navule Lake plot, disrupting sports activities. This is the second such incident this year and the seventh in 20 years. Local activist Parisara Ramesh plans to approach the Green Tribunal, criticizing neglect of the lake, while the deputy commissioner promises to investigate.
