CM: HP policy to introduce film awards
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has given its nod to a comprehensive film policy, aiming to boost cinematic exploration and develop Himachal Pradesh as a destination for film production. Chief minister Sukhvinder Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh had a rich culture and history, and picturesque and all-weather locations. Many blockbuster movies have been shot in the state and now his government intends to give a fillip to this sector, so that employment opportunities are offered to local youth, besides providing film-making opportunities to local talent.He said the state government will institute annual awards for films, with at least 50% shooting in the state. In addition, talented children and youth joining professional courses in performing arts and other related courses at reputed national institutions will be encouraged under ‘Kalakar Protsahan Yojna’. “Our government intends to nurture talent and offer youth jobs in related field," he said.He said the new policy has been formulated to also disseminate information about the state's culture, history, heritage, traditions and captivating, unexplored places. The policy aims to attract additional capital investments through film industry. A film facilitation cell will be set up in the department of information and public relations, and it will act as a single window for permission, swift online process within three working days. The CM said a film development fund will also be created for organising festivals, awards and related activities, which will be managed by the department of information and public relations under the guidance of HP Film Development Council.
