Cancel assembly membership of 6 ousted CPSs, demands BJP
Shimla: Hailing the Himachal Pradesh high court’s verdict to set aside the appointment of six chief parliamentary secretaries (CPSs), the state BJP unit has demanded the cancellation of the legislative membership of these “illegally appointed” CPSs.
Former chief minister and leader of opposition Jairam Thakur on Wednesday said the decision to appoint CPSs was taken by chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in an unconstitutional and dictatorial manner to keep Congress MLAs happy. The govt’s decision reflected that the party prefers to follow its own provisions rather than the Constitution’s, added Thakur.
“When we were in power in 2017, the issue also clicked our mind if CPSs should be appointed or not? However, considering it unconstitutional, we did not make any such appointment,” said the former CM.
Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal said the high court’s decision has proved how the incumbent Congress govt spent two years appointing CPSs illegally. He added that state’s money was being misused continuously by appointing CPSs and unconstitutionally giving them powers equivalent to ministers. He added that the BJP condemns the Congress govt’s unjust attitude towards the people of the state.
