BJP hits out at HP govt over short winter session

Shimla: Not happy with the short duration of the upcoming winter session of Himachal Pradesh assembly, the BJP on Friday launched a fierce attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led govt, saying the Congress dispensation was “trying to avoid opposition’s questions”.
The four-day winter session of Himachal assembly is scheduled to be held from Dec 18-21 at Tapovan in Dharamsala.
BJP state media in-charge and MLA Randhir Sharma, while addressing the mediapersons, claimed that the Congress govt’s decisions had damaged Himachal Pradesh’s image across the country. Now, an attempt is being made to mislead the public by calling a four-day winter session to avoid questions from the opposition, said Sharma.
The BJP legislator further said speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania’s statements seemed to indicate that he was working at the state govt’s behest.
The speaker’s post is a symbol of dignity, but his recent statements are against the democratic traditions and constitutional decorum, said Sharma, adding that Pathania had made controversial statements regarding the membership of six MLAs.
He said these statements appeared to have been made with the aim of intimidating and pressurising the legislators. Sharma, however, said: “The BJP is confident that the speaker of the assembly will refrain from any illegal and undemocratic action.”
Questioning the preparations being made to celebrate the completion of two years of the Sukhu dispensation, Sharma said the govt had no major achievement to show to the public. “Only the dissolution of the Congress executive is being celebrated,” he quipped.
