Shimla: A BJP delegation led by leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur and party’s state president Rajeev Bindal on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to governor Shiv Pratap Shukla highlighting the alleged “black deeds” and “scams” of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress govt in the state for the last two years.
The leader of opposition said the Congress govt’s two-year tenure would be known as a “black chapter” in the history of Himachal Pradesh as the Sukhu-led govt was “neck deep in corruption” and had brought the state to the brink of economic bankruptcy.
The delegation also included the BJP state in-charge Shrikant Sharma, co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, former ministers, MLAs, and the party’s state officials. The BJP leadership accused the Congress govt of unethically benefiting its friends, promoting wasteful expenditure and economic mismanagement, flouting the law and order, and establishing “mafia rule” in the state by protecting mining, drug, liquor, junk, forest, and land mafia. Thakur also accused the Congress govt of not only troubling the people of the state by taking anti-people decisions, but also of making the state a laughing stock in the entire world by taking many strange decisions.
Listing various “scams of the Congress govt”, the BJP delegation submitted that the excise and taxation department auctioned liquor contracts for this year in Feb-March 2024, in which a “big scam” took place.
The BJP leaders claimed that liquor was also being brought illegally into Himachal from outside states, causing huge losses to the govt treasury. They also alleged that the chief minister’s office itself was involved in land scams. Citing the power of the mining mafia, the BJP leaders apprised the governor that Ilma Afroz, superintendent of police, Baddi, going on a long leave confirmed this allegation. The BJP delegation also accused the Congress govt of protecting the “forest mafia”. They claimed that the Sukhu govt had put “Himachal on sale” because of its decisions.
