Appeal made for adoption of children from ‘Shishu Grih’

Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday appealed to the affluent members of society to come forward and adopt children growing up in ‘Shishu Grih’ and other orphanages.Sukhu officially handed over the adoption certificate of one of the ‘Children of the State’ to his adoptive mother at Shishu Grih, Tutikandi, in Shimla on Monday. He said the state govt was making all possible efforts for the welfare of underprivileged sections of society and formulating schemes in this direction. The govt is now the mother and father to 4,000 helpless children, and these children were officially adopted as ‘Children of the State’, said the CM. The govt is bearing the cost of their education and other expenses and preparing them to deal with future challenges, he added.The state govt has launched the ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana’ to support the welfare of vulnerable children. Under this scheme, 49 ‘Bal-Balika Ashrams’ are currently being supported across Himachal by the state govt, said Sukhu. He said Himachal was the first state in India to enact a law dedicated to the welfare of such children. Sukhu also mentioned the establishment of the ‘Sukh-Aashray Kosh’, which was playing a significant role in providing essential support for the education and future of such children. TNN
