Ahead of SMC poll, BJP, Cong leaders trade charges

Shimla: Ahead of the Shimla municipal corporation (SMC) poll, BJP state president and former speaker of the Himachal assembly Rajeev Bindal on Wednesday attacked the ruling Congress dispensation in the state saying that it was easy to give guarantees, but difficult to fulfill these.Pointing out at the Congress manifesto for the SMC elections, Bindal said this time, the party had only incorporated its intentions in the manifesto. Addressing the mediapersons here, Bindal said the Congress had given many guarantees ahead of the assembly elections, but on Tuesday, for the corporation elections, the Congress refrained from the guarantees because all the guarantees given by the party have failed.He said neither the employees got the old pension nor did the women get Rs 1,500. Till date, the 22 lakh women await Rs 1,500 cash assistance, the BJP leader said, adding that the Congress talked about intentions and promises, which was visible in their manifesto for the SMC poll released on Tuesday. Bindal said the Congress governed the SMC for 25 years but could not even build a tunnel in Dhalli.
