NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old boy named Dakshya was allegedly stabbed to death during the winter carnival in Manali, Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred backstage at Manu Rangshala, as hundreds of people were enjoying the cultural night.

Dakshya, a resident of Vasisht near Manali, was attacked with a broken glass bottle during an argument. The accused reportedly stabbed the victim on his neck, causing severe injuries that led to his death.

Kullu Superintendent of Police, Karthikeyan Gokulachandran, confirmed that the accused was apprehended in the early hours of Thursday. The police are investigating the motive behind the violent act, and a postmortem has been conducted, with the report awaited.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the scene, transported the injured boy to the civil hospital, and informed his family. The victim’s uncle, Shyam Lal, expressed anger over the incident, stating that they would stage a protest at Manali Chowk if the accused was not arrested by Thursday. He also mentioned that locals were prepared to take to the streets.

In response, authorities acted swiftly to arrest the suspect and ensure justice. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances leading to the fatal altercation.

Meanwhile, the scheduled performance of Maha Nati, a cultural dance by the women of the Right Bank of Manali, has been postponed to Friday as a mark of respect for the victim.

This unfortunate event has cast a shadow over the festive celebrations in Manali, leaving the local community in grief. Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation to bring justice to the victim’s family.
