NEHU VC’s residence vandalised

Shillong: Miscreants vandalised the official residence of the vice-chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prabha Shankar Shukla here on Sunday.
As per reports, window panes of the kitchen and the official car of the VC were damaged due to stone pelting. The incident occurred around 2am.
The VC was not present in his bungalow at the time of the incident as he had left NEHU on Saturday evening.
The registrar in-charge of NEHU lodged an FIR with Mawlai police station on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, agitating students of NEHU, the oldest central varsity in the northeast have refused to call off their hunger strike despite appeals by Meghalaya governor and its Chief Rector Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar.
The indefinite hunger strike, spearheaded by the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU), entered its sixth day on Sunday.
The students are demanding the removal of vice-chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla and four other top officials, including Registrar, Omkar Singh and his deputy, Amit Gupta, for their alleged failure to run the university.
Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has taken up the NEHU issue with the Centre.
The CM briefed the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the ongoing situation in NEHU and urged him to find an amicable solution to the issue. The NEHU faculty members have also met governor CH Vijayashankar demanding his attention and immediate intervention to end the imbroglio.
