Tura MP Sangma assures to raise NEIGRIHMS issues with Centre

Shillong: Lok Sabha member from Tura, Saleng A Sangma, has visited the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and assured that he would take up issues pertaining to the institute with the Centre. Sangma is a member of the governing body of NEIGRIHMS. A statement issued on Tuesday stated that Sangma was briefed about the current status of NEIGRIHMS by its director, Nalin Mehta, and had a productive interaction with many faculty members and staff on Monday during his visit to the institute. “In his address, the MP conveyed that the main aim of his visit was to gain an overall understanding of the various issues affecting NEIGRIHMS. Only then, he added, would it be possible to take up the matter with the central government to ensure that NEIGRIHMS develops into a premier institution providing the highest quality of healthcare to the people of the entire northeastern region,” the statement said. Director Nalin Mehta apprised the MP of the main areas of concern at NEIGRIHMS, including a shortage of faculty, long overdue cadre review, parity with AIIMS New Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh, and the requirement of land to build a guest house for needy patients. He also emphasised the need to confer the status of Institute of National Importance (INI) to NEIGRIHMS to help overcome numerous obstacles.

Konkani institute to launch Bolkamv literary series

The Institute of Konkani at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) has announced the Bolkamv literary programme series to mark its 44th anniversary. The series aims to foster literature through intimate gatherings featuring readings and discussions by writers. The inaugural event on Sept 7 will spotlight storyteller Melwyn Pinto Neerude, focusing on short story writing.
