Shillong: Noting that Meghalaya, as its name suggests, is a “land of celestial beauty” and with its “exceptional serenity”, Shillong attracted many a luminary, President Droupadi Murmu mentioned the historic visits of Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose to this hill station.
“Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s creativity got stimulated by the surroundings of this region and he wrote the novel ‘Shesher Kobita’.
At St Edmund’s College, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose delivered a stirring speech for freedom. Swami Vivekananda in Quinton Memorial Hall, presently known as Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, famously compared life as akin to a pilgrimage,” she said during her speech at a civic reception in the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday evening.
She also mentioned about freedom fighter U Sib Charan, who supported the Non-cooperation Movement.
