Smuggled gold, Chinese garlic seized

SHILLONG: The Commissioner of Customs Preventive (CCP), Shillong has seized gold biscuits and garlic of Chinese origin.

In a statement, the CCP said the officers of Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) intercepted a car on December 13 at Diengpasoh, on the outskirts of Shillong, and seized smuggled gold valued at Rs 1.42 crore. One person was also arrested.

In a separate case on December 14, the Customs sleuths seized 50 bags of garlic of Chinese origin weighing 950 kg. The consignment appears to have been smuggled across the border. Investigation is in progress, the Customs statement said.

ICG seizes smuggled medicines

The Indian Coast Guard seized over six lakh capsules of Pregeb 150mg in the Gulf of Mannar. Pregeb 150mg is an anticonvulsant, analgesic, and anxiolytic medicine used for treating epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and more. The Coast Guard received intelligence input from the Ramanathapuram police about banned substances being transshipped from Vethalai seashore. The ICG searched the shoreline and found a boat without lights. The smugglers abandoned the boat and left behind 13 cardboard boxes containing over six lakh capsules of Pregeb 150mg, worth Rs 66 lakh.

1.9cr gold seized at IGI, 2 arrested

Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport seized 3 kg of gold worth Rs 1.9 crore from two Uzbek nationals. The seizure was made based on profiling. The two passengers arrived at the domestic terminal on an Indigo flight from Lucknow to Delhi. Customs officers discovered 27 gold bars after searching their baggages.
