Talks on evolving dynamics of media landscape mark Nat’l Press Day in Shillong

Shillong: A seminar on “changing nature of the press” followed by a cultural evening marked National Press Day here on Saturday. The event was organised jointly by Shillong Press Club, directorate of information and public relations, Meghalaya govt and Meghalaya Editors and Publishers Association at the State Convention Centre. This year’s theme reflected the evolving dynamics of the media landscape.Chief minister Conrad K Sangma attended the afternoon session.Extending his greetings to the press fraternity, he wrote on social media, “The Press continues to contribute to the nation’s democratic fabric through an informed electorate. May they work in the interest of the people, upholding their trust as watchdogs of democracy. On the occasion of National Press Day, I extend my warm greetings to journalists across the country, and especially in Meghalaya. This day symbolises a free and responsible media in India. We recognise the vital role of journalists as the conscience keepers of our democracy, as they uncover the truth in a free, fair, and responsible manner. I wish them all the very best in their endeavours.”

Sangma unveils redeveloped IGP Point in Shillong

Shillong's IGP Point received a facelift as part of the Re-Imagining Streets Initiative, with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurating the redeveloped site. The project, utilizing locally sourced materials, aims to enhance the city's aesthetics. Sangma announced upcoming developments, including a 4-star hotel and an Integrated Command Centre, promising a significant transformation of Shillong's landscape within the next year.

Gautam Lahiri becomes next president of Press Club of India

Gautam Lahiri and Neeraj Thakur secured decisive victories in the Press Club of India elections. Lahiri was re-elected as president with 1045 votes, while Thakur claimed the Secretary General position with 913 votes. Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty was elected vice president.
