Shillong celebrates 61st Raising Day of home guards

Shillong: The twin organisations of civil defence and home guards have played a significant role in providing assistance in many emergencies and calamities, both natural or man-made, the state minister of civil defence and home Guards, Comingone Ymbon said. He was speaking at a function to celebrate the 61st Raising Day of Civil Defence and Home Guards at CTI Parade Ground, Mawdiangdiang here on Wednesday.“The role of the volunteers of home guards in regulating traffic, providing guard duty at the assembly complex and assisting the police in guarding puja pandals and other festivities is worthy of praise. These two organisations also help the civil administration and the state police in maintaining law and order,” the minister said.Highlighting the important role that the organisation plays in imparting training to the local population on civil defence and disaster Management, the minister advised the department to take active help of various local bodies.The minister also informed the gathering that the department has trained 7110 local public and students in disaster management, search and rescue and first aid in urban and rural areas. He added that during the year 2022-23, 2531 home guards volunteers and 330 civil defence volunteers where trained.

Farmers guard chilli crops in Laxmeshwar taluk

Farmers in Gadag district's Laxmeshwar taluk are now guarding their chilli crops after miscreants attempted to steal them. Due to the prevailing drought, the yield of many crops, including chilli, has been affected. The red chilli variety Byadagi is in high demand, and farmers are expected to make a better profit. MP horror: Blind child raped by guard in govt hostel

A visually impaired 9-year-old girl in a government-run hostel in Damoh district, MP, was raped by a 56-year-old security guard. The assault occurred on November 26, and the mother, a labourer in Delhi, took action after returning home. The girl explained to the police that she was taken while sleeping and woke up in a different room with a different layout. She was held down and raped by the guard. The mother was informed, and the police arrested the guard under IPC and Pocso Act. The Child Welfare Committee is investigating. The hostel, which had reopened after Covid closure, has 46 disabled children on the rolls, with 14 new students.
