Schools in Meghalaya asked to restrict outdoor activities amid heatwave

Shillong: School activities have been regulated across Meghalaya due to the rising temperatures with the state education department on Friday issuing guidelines to this effect.“In view of the scorching heatwave which continues to affect the entire state in general and some regions in particular, it is imperative to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” a notification issued by the education department said.All schools have been directed not to organise any outdoor activity or sports in case the area is impacted by severe heatwave and also during any future instances of heatwaves.“Adequate hydration facilities must be available throughout the school premises, including access to drinking water and shaded areas. It should be ensured that all students stay hydrated by drinking water regularly,” the notification, signed by director of school education and literacy, Swapnil Tembe, read.“Provision of ORS/lemon water should be made available in case some students face dehydration. All students should be encouraged to bring a water bottle with them. Hydration breaks can be notified by schools as per their convenience,” it said.
