QS Asia: Nehu ranks 2nd in student-teacher ratio category

SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University (Nehu), Shillong has achieved 2nd position in the teacher-student ratio category of the esteemed QS World University Rankings: Asia.

“This remarkable achievement underscores Nehu’s unwavering commitment to providing students with an exceptional academic experience characterized by personalized attention and high-quality instruction,” a statement issued by the university said on Thursday.

The QS World University Rankings: Asia are widely recognized as a global benchmark for evaluating the performance of universities worldwide. Nehu’s stellar performance in the teacher-student ratio category reflects its dedication to foster an environment where students receive the individualized support they need to thrive academically, the statement added.

148 vs 133: India beats China in QS university rankings for Asia

India has surpassed China as the most represented higher education system in Asia, with 148 featured universities in the latest QS World University Rankings for Asia. This is 37 more universities than last year. IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi are among the top 50, and there are five other Indian institutions in the top 100. India also excels in research output and has seven of Asia's top 10 universities in terms of papers per faculty. Overall, India's increasing visibility in the rankings reflects the country's dynamic expansion in higher education.

Peking University has topped the QS Asia University Rankings 2024, followed by the University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore. India has the highest number of universities on the list, with 148 featured, an increase of 37 from last year. Mainland China and Japan follow with 133 and 96 universities, respectively. Myanmar, Cambodia, and Nepal are included for the first time. The Senior Vice President of QS, Ben Sowter, commented on India's achievement, highlighting the growth of Indian institutions and their research contributions.
