SHILLONG: The office of the chief electoral officer (Meghalaya) signed an MoU with the state education department here on Wednesday with the aim of establishing ‘electoral literacy clubs’ in schools across the state.

The director of the state education department, Swapnil Tembe, said, “Our commitment to fostering well-rounded citizens led us to initiate this collaboration. By incorporating democracy into the syllabus and establishing electoral clubs, we aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of the democratic process among students”. CEO BDR Tiwari said the EC has come up with this idea of collaborating with education departments for larger participation and to create awareness among young voters.
