Night curfew along unfenced India-Bangla border in Meghalaya

Shillong: In view of the fact that the India-Bangladesh bordering areas in East Khasi Hills is unfenced and, therefore, prone to infiltration from across the border, the district authority has clamped night curfew along the international border to pre-empt any attempt at infiltration, reports Manosh Das.

BSF issues high alert along the India-Bangladesh border

India's Border Security Force issued a high alert along the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh border after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country amid violent protests. The protests, initially against a government quota system, escalated, resulting in over 300 deaths. An interim government has been announced, and India advised its citizens to avoid travel to Bangladesh.

Meghalaya imposes night curfew, 3 other northeastern states step up border vigil

Meghalaya imposed a night curfew along its border with Bangladesh to enhance security, limiting movement from 6pm to 6am. Other northeastern states like Tripura, Mizoram, and Assam have also heightened border vigilance. Security measures intensified following political upheaval and violence in Bangladesh, including close cooperation between Indian and Bangladeshi border forces.

Bangladesh border: Trucks stranded across border

The unrest in Bangladesh has severely impacted India's trucking industry, leaving around 1,300 trucks stranded at the Benapole border. Thanks to the intervention of the Indian government, these trucks have begun returning. Daily trade of essential goods, dependent on transport to Bangladesh, has come to a standstill, affecting a significant market for Indian exports.
