NEIGRIHMS meet on adverse drug reactions

SHILLONG: Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) Monitoring Centre, department of pharmacology, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), on Tuesday launched a continuing medical education (CME) programme on adverse drug reactions and pharmacovigilance to sensitise and disseminate information to health professionals about ADR and the importance of spontaneous ADR reporting.
Speaking at the inaugural session, NEIGRIHMS director Nalin Mehta highlighted the importance of pharmacovigilance in ensuring the safety of patients. “ADRs are preventable most of the time, and with the help of pharmacovigilance, we can ensure safe use of medicines and vaccines, which will augment the patient safety,” he said.
Dr D K Brahma, additional professor, department of pharmacology, NEIGRIHMS, stressed on the importance of spontaneous reporting of ADRs. Dr Reuben P Syiem, senior resident doctor, department of pharmacology, stressed the need to increase ADR reporting.
