Meghalaya sees marginal rise in number of voters

Shillong: Meghalaya has registered a marginal increase in the number of voters, chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari informed on Friday. The state has had an increase of 1.42% in the number of voters, as per the final published photo electoral rolls.The total number of electors in Meghalaya currently stands at 22,17,100. “There is an increase of net electors by 30,949, as compared to 21,86,151 at the time of publication of the draft rolls on October 27, 2023,” the chief electoral officer informed through an official statement. The state has 60 assembly constituencies out of which 55 are reserved for scheduled tribes, while the remaining five are categorized as general seats. The East Khasi Hills district, which includes capital Shillong, has a total of 5,40,600 voters.The figure, however, is not inclusive of Sohra civil sub-division which covers Sohra and Shella assembly constituencies.Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner Ronnieson Wahlang said there were 2,59,332 male and 2,81,266 female voters in the state. Two individuals have been registered as transgender in the district.

Electoral roll 2024 released: Odisha adds over 7.54 lakh young voters

Odisha has released the final Electoral Roll 2024, adding more than 7.54 lakh young voters (18-19 years of age), which is 2.27 percent of the total 3.32 crore voters in the state. This is an increase compared to the 5,45,401 young voters added in 2019. Additionally, the state has added 4,76,969 young voters within the last two months. The gender ratio has also increased, with 972 women against 1000 male voters, compared to 946 in 2019.

Rahuls yatra wont impact state electoral politics: Babulal

BJP leader Babulal Marandi criticizes Rahul Gandhi's upcoming Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, calling it a health walk. Marandi claims that Gandhi undertakes such journeys to keep himself and his party somewhat fit. He also mentions that the previous edition of the yatra did little to improve Congress's prospects in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Marandi further criticizes Gandhi's slogans and issues raised during the yatra, stating that they fell flat and failed to garner support.

5.27cr voters registered in draft list: CEO

The draft publication of the voter list for 51,507 polling stations in 199 assembly constituencies (excluding Karanpur) was completed on Saturday. The list includes a total of 5.27 crore voters, with 2.74 crore male voters and 2.52 crore female voters. A special campaign will be held on January 7 and January 21 to address claims and objections at all polling stations. Electoral registration officers will receive claims and objections until January 22.
