Meghalaya registers 70% voter turnout, likely to go up

Shillong: Meghalaya registered almost 70% voter turnout in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday to choose representatives from the 1-Shillong (ST) and 2-Tura (ST) parliamentary constituencies, reports Manosh Das. Shillong registered a 70.26% turnout, while Tura saw 69.31%, the chief electoral officer BDR Tiwari said. In 2019 polls, the overall voter turnout in the state was 71.42% with Shillong accounting for 71.42%and Tura recording 81.38% turnout.
