Meghalaya HC promotes laws of the land among jail inmates

Shillong: Meghalaya high court, in collaboration with the state legal services authority, observed Constitution Day on Tuesday at the East District Prisons & Correctional Home, East Khasi Hills district, Shillong. The programme included an interactive session between judicial officers, advocates, and jail inmates. The event began with a brief inaugural session followed by legal awareness sessions for the inmates. Speaking on the occasion, justice HS Thangkhiew, judge of the HC and executive chairman of the state legal services authority, said, “As we commemorate Constitution Day, we reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of the Constitution, upholding the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Let us pledge to preserve its words and uphold its ideals in our daily lives, safeguarding the secular and democratic fabric of our nation.” Justice Thangkhiew emphasised the importance of safeguarding the republic's secular nature, a principle crucial to the Constitution. “Secularism unites us, ensuring we're defined by our shared humanity, not differences. Our Constitution promotes respecting and celebrating India’s diverse languages, cultures, and traditions,” he said.

Legal network in state to be established on Constitution day

Chhattisgarh's legal education landscape is set for a transformation. Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) is launching the Chhattisgarh Legal Education and Research Network (CGLEARN) on November 26th.
