Shillong: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the
Padma Shri on Silbi Passah of Meghalaya in the field of art during the civil investiture ceremony in the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who was present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion, congratulated Passah and the other Padma awardees. A resident of Riatsamthiah in Shillong, Silbi Passah is a retired Hindi teacher, a resource person for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Directorate of Educational Research & Training and a renowned artist.
Her domain is socially useful, productive work (SUPW) and music. She is also an authority on of Khasi Jaintia folk songs and traditional musical instrument. Passah has a keen interest in promoting music and culture in the state. Through the department of art and culture in collaboration with North East Zone Cultural Centre, she and her troupe have had opportunities to participate in different festivals across the country.
