Campaigning picks for polls in Gambegre

Shillong: As the polling date of Nov 13 approaches, political activity is intensifying in the Gambegre assembly constituency of West Garo Hills district, ahead of the byelection. The last date for filing nominations is Oct 25, and the papers will be scrutinized on Oct 28.
The results will be announced on November 23.
The byelection was triggered by the resignation of Congress MLA Saleng A Sangma after he defeated Agatha Sangma, sister of chief minister Conrad K Sangma and member of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), in the Tura Lok Sabha election earlier this year.
Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma, a practising physician and wife of CM Conrad Sangma, is the NPP candidate. Sadhiarani Sangma, wife of former MLA Zenith Sangma, is representing the All India Trinamool Congress. BJP has fielded Bernard Marak, a member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council from Tura, while Congress has nominated Jingjang M Marak.
Chief minister Conrad Sangma has been campaigning in the constituency to support his party’s candidate and wife, Mehtab.
