Homage to Khasi poet U Soso Tham

SHILLONG: Homage was paid to Khasi poet laureate U Soso Tham on his 83rd death anniversary on Monday through various programmes.

“I join the people of #Meghalaya in paying homage to the legendary Khasi poet laureate U Soso Tham on his 83rd death anniversary. As we commemorate this day, we proudly remember his valuable contributions towards the promotion and development of Khasi literature,” chief minister Conrad K Sangma posted on social media today.

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) paid homage to the poet at his birthplace at Saitsohpen. They also paid floral tributes to his bust at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) premises here today.

Down-to-earth, U Soso Tham was a literary luminary, unique in his style of interpreting life on earth as it were.

“He had transcended the immediate boundaries of his life, his time and his culture to appeal to the universal feelings of mankind itself,” says a literature teacher about the Bard of the Khasi Hills.
