SHILLONG: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who addressed four public meetings on Saturday at Mahendraganj, Rongjeng, Mendipathar and Kharkutta in the Garo Hills region, told the electorate that Meghalaya could “experience the same pace of development as Assam” under a BJP-led government.

Asking the people to vote for BJP and elect the party’s candidates in their respective regions, Sarma drew their attention to the speed of execution of central government schemes in Assam as compared to Meghalaya.

The Assam CM claimed that the benefits of important schemes like PM Awas Yojna had benefited very few families in Meghalaya when compared to Assam. “These schemes will truly reach the people if a BJP government is elected in the state as corruption from in-between will be removed,” Sarma said.

He also spoke about the Arun Uday, which, he claimed was running successfully in Assam, adding that under this scheme one unmarried or elderly women of every BPL family received Rs 1,200 on the 10th of every month.
