Heavy rain continues in Kanyakumari

Due to heavy rain, schools in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, were closed for the second consecutive day. The district has experienced 1,417 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, causing water logging and damage to houses. The Chief Minister, M K Stalin, has announced compensation for the families of three people who died from electrocution during the rain. Dams in the district are filling up rapidly, and the India Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the region. In Odisha, the IMD has issued heavy rain warnings for 14 districts.

Weather conditions behind huge jump in dengue, chikungunya cases in September

The recent heavy rain and change in weather conditions in Pune have led to a rise in monsoon-related infections such as dengue, chikungunya, and viral fever cases. Private hospitals are overcrowded with patients reporting symptoms like high fever, cold, cough, and joint pain. September has seen the highest number of dengue and chikungunya cases this year, with a significant increase in the past two weeks. The Aedes mosquito breeding in stagnant water sources and self-medication with antibiotics for viral infections are contributing factors. The rise in viral diseases can be attributed to economic factors, immuno-suppressive conditions, and improved diagnostic techniques.

'Rain to continue in parts of state'

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall in the southern and eastern regions of Bihar. Overcast conditions persisted in Patna on Tuesday as the monsoon remained active throughout the state. Heavy rainfall was recorded in Rohtas district, while light to moderate rainfall occurred in most places in the southern and northeastern parts of the state. The Patna Meteorological Centre has forecasted heavy rainfall in several districts of Bihar in the next 24 hours, along with thunderstorms and lightning in most districts. The southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from some parts of India in the next few days.
