SHILLONG: Four members of a family tragically lost their lives in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district when their home was destroyed by a mudslide caused by continuous rainfall, as per the police.
The incident occurred in Pynthor Langtein, located in the Thadlaskein block, approximately 20 km away from Jowai, the district headquarters town.
The unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, and officials suspect that the mudslide was triggered by the incessant rainfall over the past three days.
The house was buried under mud and debris, instantly claiming the lives of Diangki Phawa (31), his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem (25), and their two young children, Edify (6) and Wiladaroi (3). The bodies have been recovered and taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
