Four-member family dies in Meghalaya mudslide

Shillong: A four-member family was buried alive when their house was brought down by a rain-induced mudslide in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya on Sunday morning. Later, police dug out the bodies of the father, mother and their two minor children.A statement by the district administration said, “Due to the incessant rain, a landslide occurred at the Pynthor Langtein village under the Thadlaskein community and rural development block of the West Jaintia Hills district where one house was partially buried by mud. In the incident, four people lost their lives which included the father, the mother and their two children.”It added, “The deputy commissioner of the West Jaintia Hills district has been instructed to release ex gratia funds at the rate of Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kin of the deceased immediately. The Thadlaskein C&RD block development has also been directed to render any other immediate assistance if required.”

Four district magistrates transferred

The Tripura government has made significant changes in its administrative positions, including the transfer of four district magistrates and the reshuffling of secretaries' portfolios. The secretary of the health and family welfare department, Debasish Basu, will take charge of the general administration departments, while Rathod Sandeep Rewaji will become the new secretary of the health and family welfare department. Additionally, there have been transfers of district magistrates in various districts of Tripura. A strike organized by opposition party Tipra Motha in the Tripura Autonomous District Council disrupted normal life in the state.

Fresh violence in Manipur, 2 houses torched in Imphal West district

In a fresh outbreak of violence in Manipur's Imphal West district, two houses were set on fire and several rounds were fired. The incident occurred in the New Keithelmanbi area at around 10pm. The accused managed to escape, causing tension in the area. Security forces and fire services brought the blaze under control. Additional security has been deployed and the situation is now under control, according to a police official.

Incessant rain inundates low-lying city areas, triggers two landslides

Incessant rain in Guwahati, India has triggered urban floods in low-lying areas of the city, causing disruptions to daily life. Two landslides were also reported, but no casualties have been reported. The worst-affected areas include Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Jayanagar, Gandhi Basti, and Hatigaon. Waterlogging has led to traffic congestion in various parts of the city. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has been working to drain the accumulated water, and they are prepared to deal with the situation as predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department. However, residents have complained about inadequate drain desilting efforts.
