Carambolim and Pilerne, villages united by a ghost past, tie the knot at a local festival
Two Goan villages, Carambolim and Pilerne, have symbolically twinned at a festival called Matiechem Fest. Unlike other twinnings with global cities, this event did not receive much attention. Panaji, the capital of Goa, has several twin cities around the world. Both Carambolim and Pilerne were once ghost villages due to the Spanish Flu in 1918, but now they are facing the challenge of urbanization.
